Diagnostic Assessment
A comprehensive diagnosis of your child to check for ADHD and ASD. This process uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative assessment tools to create a comprehensive and clear picture of your child’s neurobehavioral health.
The Diagnostic Assessment consists of three parts: Data Gathering; a Digital Analysis (the QB Check), and; The Consultation.
This usually involves two separate face-to-face appointments and parents/carers and teachers of the child will be required to complete a number of pre-consultation assessments to create a full and holistic diagnosis of your child’s behaviour.
After the Diagnostic Assessment is complete, you will receive a diagnostic result and action plan during the meeting.

Prescription
We are one of the few clinics that truly provide a specialised ’all-in-one’ for your child’s neurodiverse health. This means we can immediately prescribe ADHD medication for your child if required.
Other specialists (e.g. Child Psychologists) might be able to diagnose ADHD, but they do not have the power to prescribe medication. This means many family still have to endure a lengthy wait in the public healthcare system even if they obtain a private diagnosis.
If prescription medication is a suitable option for you, and you decide it is the way forward, then you can also obtain your prescription from the Bay Paediatrics Clinic. This means you can quickly move forward as a family with confidence about the future.

Follow-up
As children grow and develop, their needs can change. It is important to regularly monitor and check in with your child to ensure they have the optimal balance of prescription and non-prescription treatment. Plus, this is when we can also liaise with parents and carers to ensure you are behind heard and that you’re getting all the support you need.
Should you choose to start your child on medication at the initial appointment we recommend a follow up at 6 weeks to review how this is going. After this the appointments can be spaced out and are often dependent on the individual.
Should anything change with your child’s condition or you wish to be seen sooner, you can contact the clinic to book an appointment.

ADHD or Autism?
When a child is displaying signs of neurodiversity, it can be a scary, confusing, and overwhelming time. The more you read, and the more people you talk to, the more confusing it can be.
One of the key questions parents and carers ask is, “Does my child have ADHD, Autism, or is it something else, or are they just ‘spirited’?
At Bay Paediatrics, our goal is to give you Clarity, Certainty and Confidence about a brighter future for you and your family.
That’s why the first step for all new patients is to undergo a Diagnostic Assessment. This will primarily confirm or deny an ADHD diagnosis, and help us to recommend an appropriate treatment plan which may or may not include medication.
If the Diagnostic Assessment indicates that your child may have Autism, then you will be informed of this. Autism is a different neurological condition to ADHD, so requires a separate assessment using a different diagnostic criteria.
Understanding Autism
If you're concerned about your child possibly being on the autism spectrum, getting a comprehensive child autism assessment in New Zealand is an important step. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological condition that affects around 1-2% of the population. It's present from birth, with autism signs and symptoms appearing at a young age. Since ASD is often hereditary, it can run in families.
Every child with ASD is unique, showing different symptoms. These can include challenges in communication, social interactions, and behaviors, as well as specific routines, obsessive interests, and sensitivities to sensory inputs. While some signs are noticeable early on, others may become more evident as social demands increase or may be hidden by learned behaviors or mimicking others.
At Bay Paediatrics, we understand how crucial a thorough assessment is when it comes to diagnosing autism in children. If ASD is suspected during an ADHD evaluation, we offer further child autism diagnosis services. Our multidisciplinary approach involves professionals like psychologists, occupational therapists, or speech therapists, depending on your child's needs.
One of the assessments we may recommend is the ADOS-2, often considered the "gold standard" for autism diagnosis. This structured evaluation observes your child's communication, social interactions, play, and behaviors. The insights gained from this assessment can help inform a diagnosis, guide treatment plans, and assist in educational placement.
Please note that additional assessments will incur extra costs, which will be discussed with you beforehand.
If you find yourself asking, "Is my child autistic?" or wondering about the signs and symptoms, we're here to help you navigate the assessment process in New Zealand.
“We underestimated how stressful and overwhelming an ADHD journey can be, but with Dr. Moll’s help, we are a happy, thriving family again”

Our Booking Policy
Please Read
There is currently a huge demand for ADHD assessments in New Zealand. This causes frustration, stress, and anxiety for children and their families.
To ensure our quality and care levels are the highest in the country, Bay Paediatrics exclusively uses Paediatric Consultants that have devoted their careers to specialise in child neurodiversity. We are fun people, but we take your child’s health and the future of your family extremely seriously. We prioritise your child’s ADHD assessment, and we ask you to do the same.
When patients do not show up for their appointments, this not only harms the child in question, but also wastes the time of a highly-trained and specialist professional. This is time that could have been spent helping another family on our waiting list.
Therefore, we ask families to secure their appointment by paying for their Diagnostic Assessment within 24 hours of booking. Payments can be made by debit or credit card, or bank transfer.
Of course, we understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to reschedule your appointment you can do so for free a minimum of 48 hours in advance (excluding weekends). If you need to change your appointment with less than 48 hours notice, this will incur a $200 + GST administration charge.
